The Whale Deck & Conservancy is an icon for eco tourism and environmental education in the Ramsgate area. With the best view from the deck, this is the best spot for whale, dolphin and moon watching! The beautiful deck has been revamped in the past year and is now wheelchair accessible too.
The best months for whale & dolphin activity is May to November, where you will see Humpback, Southern right and Brydes whales, along with a range of dolphins and ocean activity. Our favourite and most eventful time of year along the coastline is the Sardine Run, when the greatest shoal on earth passes our little town, bringing with it a tremendous amount of excitement, bird and sea life!
There is a “Mooddeckers” event held every full moon at the deck, where you can enjoy a beautiful moon rise and bring a picnic along, a small fee of R20 is charged which goes towards the conservancy. Yoga with a view! Also very popular at the deck is yoga, hosted by Bo – Yoga studio, on a Wednesday at 9am & 5pm and on a Saturday at 9am for R50pp. Who could think of a better way to start your weekend?!
Every Saturday from 10- 11am the Conservancy hosts a Pop-up shop in the building behind the deck, where a range of local, handmade goods are sold! There is coffee & tea for sale too, so pop in and support, enjoy the view and hopefully some whales too!
