Endless Summer

With temperatures averaging 25 degrees during the day, sun shine, minimal wind and rain, the south coast is the perfect place to enjoy a South African winter! Whether you are an ocean enthusiast or just want to work on your tan, there is something for everyone here!

The next couple of months boast the busiest marine life in our oceans, with the cooler currents bringing the Greatest Shoal on Earth – The Sardines – right to our doorstep! The ocean is alive with gannets, whales, dolphins and of course the keen fisherman and photographers ready to make the most of every moment!

The fishing over this period is great, beach, rock, pier or deep sea! Not only are the waters alive with Sardines but Shad, Sharks and many other bigger fish too. Get your fishing licence from our local Post Office and spend your days by the sea, fishing to your hearts content!

While some of us would prefer not to be as close and personal to our fishy friends there are many beautiful beach walks, such as the Ramsgate Ramble which offer the perfect look out points for Whale & Dolphin activity and also offer a great variety of the vast species of Flora and fauna along our coast line.

Take a dip in the sea or one of the many tidal pools along the coast, with water temperatures of 22 to 24 degrees you can enjoy cooling off in the pristine, blue waters.. You won’t need to go far for a bite to eat or a nice sundowner, just off Ramsgate main Beach is the Blue Lagoon Restaurant & Cocktail Deck – perfect for after a long day on the beach! If you’re down further south at Ski Boat Bay , you will find their beach cafe easily, sit down and enjoy a light meal and a drink while watching the fisherman come in!

The “Sardine Fever” has hit the South Coast!

The month has begun with great excitement as 100 crates of sardines were filled at Port Edward beach earlier this week! The shoals are moving up the coast from the Eastern Cape and have since been spotted between Umgababa and Amamzimtoti, there was also some action on Margate beach just this morning as another small shoal arrived!
